Winter is about being cosy indoors and no better way to maximise #feels than watching romantic comedies.
One film to sweep you off your feet is Amy Schumer's latest I FEEL PRETTY. To celebrate the release of this film on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital, some of the eOne staff have put together a list of their rom-com picks, so you don't have to.
I FEEL PRETTY
This film is super funny, charming and quite moving - the perfect girls' night in movie. Who knew Michelle Williams was a queen of comedy!
With fantastic chemistry between returning stars/writers Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, the third film in Richard Linklater’s celebrated trilogy is an endearingly earnest romance that’s equal parts funny and melancholic.
A Parisian girl devotes herself to secretly helping those around her, directed by the fabulously creative Jean-Pierre Jeunet - it’s charming, happy, beautiful, whimsical and full of so many romantic and funny imaginative little love stories, what’s not to adore!
This film has a big heart and great humour. Sandra Bullock is stunning and has awesome chemistry with Ryan Reynolds. A must-see!
FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL
This movie stands out for me because it digs deeper into character development than is typical of the genre. It is raunchy, funny and really sweet. The ultimate break-up movie.
(500) DAYS OF SUMMER
The reason I’ve had an on-off fringe for the last 10 years! The IKEA date, The Smiths sing-along in the lift and THAT musical sequence to ELO’s Mr. Blue Sky… I’ve watched it over and over. Don’t be fooled by the opening narration: it’s a proper love story for the modern age.
This iconic rom-com perfectly captures the 90s teen generation. It’s chock-full of witty dialogue, over-the-top slang and crazy fashion. Given it is over 20 years old, has it lost any relevance? As if!
Entirely touching, romantic and quirky in all the right ways, What If? is driven by the perfect story, and the perfect cast. Let’s not forget the brilliance of Adam Driver (Star Wars) and Mackenzie Davis (TV’s Black Mirror, Tully). Plus, Harry Potter and the queen of indie rom-coms (The Big Sick, In Your Eyes, Ruby Sparks). What a pairing!
SHE'S THE MAN
Thank you, Shakespeare, and Amanda Bynes for this Classic, Mid-'00s romcom. She's the Man educated every guy about the versatility of a tampon; provided every girl with the tools to get closer to their crush (dress up as and impersonate your twin brother and BOOM! You too can score Channing T) and finally, that “Heels are a male invention designed to make a woman’s butt look smaller. And to make it harder for them to run away.”
I Feel Pretty is available to buy on Digital July 18. Buy or Rent on Digital, Blu-ray & DVD Aug 1.
